Wall Street shares staged some of their biggest session percentage gains of the year on Thursday after the last clutch of opinion polls pointed to an outright victory by the “Remain” camp in Britain’s Brexit referendum.
By the close the Dow Jones had soared 1.3% to 18,011. The S&P 500 jumped 1.4% to 2113, while the NASDAQ surged 1.6% to 4910.
Part of the gains was due to oil prices rising.
The US benchmark West Texas Intermediate jumped 2% to US$50.12 a barrel, chalking up some of its best levels in two weeks.
