· The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 328.09 points, or 1.33 percent, to 24,252.8, the S&P 500 lost 37.81 points, or 1.37 percent, to 2,717.07 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 160.81 points, or 2.09 percent, to7,532.01.
An escalating trade dispute between the United States and other leading economies battered U.S. stocks on Monday, handing the S&P 500 and Nasdaq their steepest losses in more than two months.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the session below its 200-day moving average for the first time since June 2016.
· Asian markets declined in early Tuesday trade as investors digested fresh developments in an escalating trade dispute between the U.S. and China.
· Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.97 percent in early morning trade as major sectors all came under pressure. Technology stocks and automakers were in negative territory, with blue chips Toyota and SoftBank Group down 0.86 percent and 2.84 percent, respectively.
Other major markets in Asia also put in poor showings, with South Korea's Kospi sinking 0.82 percent and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 edging down by 0.65 percent.
