• Asian stocks steadied on Wednesday but investors were wary ahead of an election in Britain, a European Central Bank meeting, and testimony at a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing by James Comey, the former FBI chief fired by President Donald Trump.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS crept up 0.1 percent, with Hong Kong and mainland China stocks leading the region higher.

• Japanese stocks barely moved in thin trade on Wednesday as investors continued to shun riskier assets ahead of potentially market moving global events later this week.
The Nikkei was flat in choppy trade, ending at 19,984.62 points.

• China stocks advanced on Wednesday, led by the blue-chip CSI300 index closing at a six-month high, as a growing number of listed firms encouraged employees to buy shares, and as the central bank moved to ease fears of a mid-year liquidity crunch.
The blue-chip CSI300 index rose 1.2 percent, to 3,533.87 points, while the Shanghai Composite Index also advanced 1.2 percent to 3,140.32 points.
