• Markets in Asia finished mixed on Tuesday, as investors remained cautious ahead of British Prime Minister Theresa May's speech on Brexit plans due later in the global day, as well as President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration stateside at the end of the week.

• Jan 17 Japan's Nikkei fell to its lowest level in more than a month on Tuesday as a strong yen soured sentiment, while shares of Honda tumbled after it said an air bag made by Takata Corp had ruptured in one of its cars in Japan.

The Nikkei share average ended 1.5 percent lower at 18,813.53, the weakest closing level since Dec. 8.

Honda Motor Co skidded 2.7 percent after it said the passenger-side air bag of one of its Fit compact multi-purpose vehicles ruptured late last month, resulting in minor injury to the car's driver.

• Shanghai's benchmark stock index rose on Tuesday, snapping a five-day losing streak, as small-caps staged a sharp afternoon rebound that let an index tracking them halt an eight-day slide.

The blue-chip CSI300 index rose 0.2 percent, to 3,326.36 points. The Shanghai Composite Index also added0.2 percent to 3,108.77 points.

• Hong Kong shares bounced back on Tuesday from the previous day's spill, but gains were capped as investors awaited British Prime Minister Theresa May's speech on Brexit later in the day and Friday's inauguration of Donald Trump as U.S. president.

The benchmark Hang Seng index, which on Monday suffered its biggest one-day loss in a month, added 0.5percent to 22,840.97 points. The Hong Kong China Enterprises Index edged up 0.4 percent to 9,702.19points.
