On Tuesday, shares rose broadly and modestly in the U.S. The Dow industrials added 11.23 points, or less than 0.1%, to 19945.04, boosted by a 0.6% gain in Apple Inc. The S&P 500 gained 5.09 points, or 0.2%, to2268.88 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 24.75 points, or 0.5%, to a new closing high of5487.44.

Technology shares helped lift U.S. stocks in a quiet session Tuesday.

Asia stocks followed Wall Street higher early on Wednesday, while the dollar firmed against major peers such as the yen following the release of upbeat U.S. economic data overnight.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS rose 0.2 percent.

Australian stocks were up 0.9 percent. Japan's Nikkei .N225 was little changed.
