Asian shares rose to one-year highs, expanding their gains this year to 10 percent, supported by a jump in oil prices and investor expectations of an extended phase of easy monetary policy around the globe.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS edged up 0.3 percent, bringing its gains so far this year to10 percent.

Japan's Nikkei dropped to a more than one-week low on Tuesday as selling accelerated in late trade after the dollar hit a one-month low against the yen.

The Nikkei dropped 1.6 percent to 16,596.51, the lowest closing level since Aug. 5.

China stocks pulled back from seven-month highs on Tuesday as a sharp correction in bank shares offset sustained strength in the property sector.

Both the blue-chip CSI300 index and the Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.5 percent, to 3,378.25 and 3,110.04 points, respectively.

Hong Kong shares, like those in many Asian markets, were roughly flat on Tuesday, as they cooled off after reaching their highest point this year.

The Hang Seng index fell 0.1 percent, to 22,910.84, while the China Enterprises Index was unchanged at 9,707.99 points.
