The Dow Jones Industrial Average today fell more than 37 points as concerns about energy stocks and oil prices again weighed on investor sentiment. Another tough day of earnings also fueled the sell-off. Shares of SunPower Corp. (Nasdaq: SPWR) cratered more than 30% after the clean energy company announced a second-quarter loss, slashed its annual outlook, and announced plans to reorganize the company. Meanwhile, shares of Perrigo Company Plc. (NYSE: PRGO) fell 9.6% after the firm slashed its 2016 forecast and reported a smaller profit than Wall Street expected.
Asian shares fell on Thursday, reversing recent gains as investors took profits after Wall Street declined overnight, and oil prices tumbled on news of a surprising jump in U.S. government stockpiles.
