• The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 100.12 points, or 0.43 percent, to 23,358.24, the S&P 500 .SPX lost 6.79 points, or 0.26 percent, to 2,578.85 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC dropped 10.50 points, or 0.15 percent, to 6,782.79

Wall Street ended the week on a sour note on Friday, with major indexes slipping modestly as investors weighed the fate of the Republicans’ tax overhaul plan.

A Reuters poll showed that nearly two-thirds of more than 60 economists said they were not confident the Trump administration would get the legislation passed this year.

• Asia markets were mixed in early trade on Monday, following a decline in U.S. equities last Friday on lingering concerns about American tax reform.

Japan's Nikkei 225 was down 0.22 percent, while the Topix index fell 0.2 percent. In South Korea, the Kospi was up 0.33 percent.

• One focus for investors: Analysts were cautiously optimistic about the U.S. tax reform getting done this year. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Friday that he expects a Republican tax reform bill to be sent to President Donald Trump by Christmas.

Mnuchin made his comments a day after the House passed a bill aimed at overhauling the tax code. The Senate now has to vote on its version of a tax plan.
